I have been pastor of Pine Ridge since 1994. Prior to moving to Kansas City I served for eight years as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Dallas Center, Iowa, a small community just outside of Des Moines. I have been married to Marcia since 1985 and we have two children.
I graduated from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1986 and completed my Doctor of Ministry at St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City in 2008.
I count it as a great blessing to be the pastor of Pine Ridge and look forward to the possibilities God holds for this church. I enjoy my involvement as an Oblate at Mt. St. Scholastica in Atchison, KS.
For quiet meditation during the day I recommend the site, "Sacred Space"
Associate Pastor of Discipleship
I joined the Pine Ridge team June 1, 2015 as the Associate Pastor for Discipleship. Moving to Kansas City is coming “full circle” for my husband Joe and me; Joe is from Lenexa, Kansas and we met in 1980 while we were students at the University of Kansas. My time at KU included getting a Master’s in counseling which has been helpful in my ministry work. We have two adult daughters who live in Philadelphia who we enjoy visiting, traveling with and cheering on the Jayhawks and Arizona Wildcats together.
I am passionate about helping people of all ages learn about and grow in their faith, through a variety of avenues, and enjoy this role at Pine Ridge. Although I am a recent graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary, I served in youth ministry in Scottsdale, Arizona for fifteen years at Mountain View Presbyterian Church. This is an exciting time to be a part of Pine Ridge and I look forward to seeing what God has in store for us and growing together.
I joined the Pine Ridge staff in September of 1993 as a part-time secretary when there were just 256 members. A lot has changed since then: committees, programs, technology, staff, even our church building. I've seen Pine Ridge grow to its current membership of 643 and I have grown with it, both spiritually and professionally, from part-time secretary to Office Manager in 2011, to Church Administrator in 2016.
I am a native of St. Louis, Missouri but moved to Kansas City in 1980 when I married my husband Steve. We have three children and five grandchildren that all live just outside of the Kansas City area and keep us busy.

Lead Youth Director
I have been a member of Pine Ridge since 1995 when I married Dan Scheneman. We have 3 wonderful children who keep us on our toes. I have served Pine Ridge in a few different staff and volunteer positions over the years. Currently, I am one of the youth directors. I have been in youth ministry since 1991 as a part-time youth director and serving on summer staff at Heartland Center. I still volunteer with many children’s programs because I love to see their growth over the years!
This church has been a blessing to me where I have grown to know and care about many different people that I might not otherwise have gotten to know. I enjoy watching the children of our church move into the youth program and then into adulthood! It is truly a blessing to be a youth director in a church that so highly values youth.
I have lived in Kansas City since 1977, and actually graduated from Park Hill High School, right across the street from Pine Ridge. My Youth For Christ youth group met in Genesis House! I graduated from NWMSU with a BS in Math. I began working in Children’s Ministry at Pine Ridge in 2004.
My husband Karl and I have been married since 1990, and have three fantastic boys who still keep us busy. We joined Pine Ridge in 1996, and the whole family was baptized together the following year. That is one of my fondest memories at Pine Ridge!
Teaching children is very inspirational; helping them learn about God’s love for them and others is truly one of the most rewarding aspects of working in Children’s Ministry. I am still amazed at how much I learn from teaching children!

My family and I moved to Kansas City in August of 2011, which is when I started my career as the Preschool Director at Pine Ridge. Before beginning my adventure as the Preschool Director, I was a public school teacher in Wichita, KS for 9 years. I graduated from Wichita State University with a BA in Elementary Education in 2002. I truly love teaching and watching each child learn, grow and have fun!
I have a wonderful husband, Tim, who is a State Farm Agent located in the Picture Hills Shopping Center. I also have two amazing children, Cole and Reese, which make being a mother the biggest joy! We enjoy family time and much of our free time is spent at sporting events. We love all that Kansas City has to offer for fun family time and look forward to all that the future holds.
Director of Music
After graduating from College of the Ozarks in 1998 with a BS in Music Vocal Performance and a minor in Philosophy/Religion, I served as Chancel Choir & Bell Choir director at Westminster Presbyterian in Springfield, Missouri, for four years. I received a MA in Music, with an emphasis in choral conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music in 2010. Springfield is where I met and married my wonderful wife, Lori, in 2000. We have two delightful children, Audrey and Elise. I have been serving as Director of Music at Pine Ridge since May 2003.
I have a passion for music worship in the church to be more than just a nice song or a great sound. It is another means by which we can express our faith and devotion to our God. Likewise, it is a means by which people experience God like no other. All styles of music can be worship if God is at the center of them. So make a joyful noise!
I'm Nancy Custead, and I love Pine Ridge Church. I am so fortunate to get to play our beautiful instrument, the Rembrandt, Johannus Organ on Sunday mornings.
I was born in Piqua, Ohio, and learned quickly the ways of the Presbyterians, since dad was a Presbyterian minister. My mother, Doris Taylor, was an excellent piano teacher as well as the church organist, so I was lucky to learn piano and organ "from the inside out" so to speak.
I went to Park College in Parkville, Missouri and graduated with a degree in music. I taught music for 25 years and loved it. Meanwhile, I played the organ for several churches around Kansas City for some forty years, which included a Congregational Church, a Methodist Church, and 22 years at Emerson Park Christian Church. When I took a break from organ jobs, I joined Pine Ridge Church in 2000. I am thouroughly enjoying my job as organist, and love to spend hours practicing and preparing music.
