Vote

I voted Tuesday.

In the Presidential election, I mean. No, I wasn’t off a month. I’m sure it is true in all counties, but in Platte County, where we live, there is a polling place open from now until Election Day for people who need to vote early for some reason. If you are going to be out of town and don’t want to mess with getting an absen-tee ballot notarized you can go to 2600 NW Prairie View in Platte City and vote. You can go especially if you have some kind of preexisting condition which puts you in a higher risk group for COVID-19. They just ask why you want to vote early. I simply said, “Health reasons.” (which is true) and showed them my driv-er’s license and got a ballot. Marcia was able to vote as well be-cause of her concern for my protection. The whole thing took about ten minutes. With the extra time we had allowed we had ice cream and looked at leaves.

I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity, especially this year. If you need an excuse, let me be your excuse, simply tell them, “I don’t want to risk exposing my pastor to the virus!”

I really love voting. I always feel a surge of patriotism as I put my ballot in the machine to be counted along with millions of other Americans. Voting is important. Elections are important. I am not about to predict the outcome of this election. In 2020, are you kidding? But I can tell you with certainty that the results are already clear in the election that matters most.

The Apostle Paul wrote centuries ago, “Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:33, 38-39)

On the night before he died Jesus said, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” (John 15:16)
God has voted and you have been elected to love, to be loved and to bear fruit your whole life!
