Is it just a nice day, or is it global warming?
I don’t know why I can’t just enjoy a beautiful 70 degree, spring like day in the middle of February and not worry that it is some sinister indicator of the heating atmosphere. Even if today is a forecast of future drought, melting polar ice caps and rising oceans, there isn’t much I can do about it before the sun goes down. If today I turned off all my lights; walked to work, so I didn’t start my car; and lived an Amish-like, unplugged life style, it would still be a beautiful day.
Maybe awareness begins not with worry, weighing arguments, or even guilt that I still haven’t gotten around to replacing all of my light bulbs with the curly more environmentally friendly kind. Genuine awareness begins simply with genuine awareness.
Today I will feel the gentle breeze and the warm sun on my neck and give thanks for the gift of this beautiful day. I will listen beyond politics to what most scientists agree is a real concern for us all. I will be aware of things I can do which have affect on the environment.
But before all of that I will simply enjoy this beautiful day. I hope you will too.
Peace+,
Jim
